The story for kids

This is Neptune, the planet farthest from the Sun. It's dark blue, like the deep sea. Neptune has the strongest winds, faster than an airplane! It's dark and cold there, because the Sun is so far away. Neptune goes around the Sun so slowly that one trip takes longer than a person's whole life. Neptune's biggest moon is Triton.

For grown-ups

This is Neptune, the planet farthest from the Sun. It has the strongest winds in the Solar System, faster than two thousand kilometres per hour. Neptune is so far away that it takes one hundred and sixty-five years to complete one orbit of the Sun. This planet was discovered in eighteen forty-six: first, mathematics was used to calculate where it should be, and only then was it seen through a telescope. Neptune's largest moon, Triton, orbits in the opposite direction and has icy geysers.
